Caterpillar benchmark employees’ English level using our free English test

For more than 90 years, Caterpillar has been making sustainable progress possible and driving positive change on every continent. Customers turn to Caterpillar to help them develop infrastructure, energy and natural resource assets.

With 2018 sales and revenues of $54.7 billion, and over 42,000 employees globally, Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.

Caterpillar has been a key partner in India’s growth since the 1930s, supporting growth in mining, transportation, captive power generation and construction of infrastructure. With two key offices in Bangalore and Chennai, the team are constantly communicating across the globe with colleagues and clients.

In order to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the team, and to help identify areas of improvement, Caterpillar reached out to EnglishScore to help them benchmark the English level of their employees.

Caterpillar staff take a free 40 minute mobile English test. After completing the test, employees receive a score aligned to CEFR and a breakdown of how they’ve performed against 4 core skills: grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening. They also have the opportunity to get a British Council certificate. These scores are then shared with Caterpillar internal team as a report which allows them to interrogate the data and identify areas of improvement.

Caterpillar Group used the EnglishScore assessment to benchmark existing English language skills for employees embarking on a training with the British Council. The test was conveniently taken by some in the comfort of their own homes without being burdened by the fear of another examination
